The Global Symposium for Human Capital Development 2008 is being held at the renowned Warwick University Conference Centre on the outskirts of Coventry in the very heart of England which is easily accessible by road, rail and air. Warwickshire is home to cathedrals, castles, stately homes and gardens, museums and galleries. Links to campus maps advising directions have been added below, you are also able to download useful information about the campus, costs at a glance and review photographs of both types of accommodation on offer for this symposium together with useful information to assist you with making your decision. Visit the Useful Links page if you need to download Adobe Acrobat Reader There are two types of accommodation available to you and these are made available on a first come first served basis. Just follow the link to the central booking point where you will be able to reserve and pay for your room directly. En-suite bedrooms - all en-suite bedrooms have clock radio, free internet access via network point, tea and coffee making facilities, hairdryer and are fully equipped with towels and toiletries. Iron and ironing boards are available in the kitchen/lounge areas. Standard bedrooms - all standard bedrooms have clock radio, free internet access via network point, hairdryer washbasin, towels and toiletries with shared bathrooms. Our shared kitchens are all equipped with Ironing, tea and coffee making facilities. Reception - Our reception staff will be pleased to answer your queries between 7.00am - 11.00pm at Rootes Social Building. You can contact reception by internal phone from your hall of residence, extension *22280, or by direct line on 024 7652 2280 or 024 7652 3936 (NOTE: all internal numbers are free, but whenever using pay phones, always prefix the internal number with a star*). Incoming faxes should be sent to +44 2476 524887 these will be received on your behalf free of charge. Outgoing faxes will cost £0.70pence per sheet if sent within the UK. All other faxes to any other part of the world will be charged at £1.40 pence per sheet. Check in/out - Rooms will be available after 3.00pm for check in. Please vacate your bedroom by 9.30am on your day of departure. Please inform reception on arrival of any difficulties you may have in the unlikely event of an evacuation (e.g. hearing or walking difficulties). Keys - One key is issued which gives access both to your room and the outer door of the residence. Keys can be left at Rootes reception upon departure or in the boxes situated in the entrance halls of each residence. Luggage - If you require storage for your luggage, please ask at reception. A secure area is provided at the reception in the Rootes Social Building. Internet Access - All bedrooms on campus are networked for free internet access (for computers with an Ethernet network card). Alternatively, PC's with free internet and e-Mail access are available for both day and residential guests in the Rootes reception. These may be accessed 7:00am - 11:00pm Monday - Sunday. We would recommend that you bring your own RJ45 drop cable and international mains connector. However, you will be able to purchase these from the Post Office at a cost of £5.00 per cable. Please be advised that in order for the laptops to work in the accommodation they need to be set to DHCP ( this means that the PC will set automatically to receive the internet). If this has been set manually delegates can come to Rootes reception and we would be able to change this. Communications - Payphones are located in the public areas of the accommodation blocks and the public foyer areas around the campus. Delegates may use these to make national and international calls. A University phone card may be purchased from Cost Cutter and a small number are available from Rootes reception. They are charged at £5.00, £10.00, £20.00, £50.00. Supermarket - Costcutter at the University of Warwick has just received a makeover and is now bigger and brighter than ever. A modern, smart convenience store offering 5,000 lines and great value for money in an environment where quality counts. Costcutter is open seven days a week and sells sandwiches, newspapers, confectionery, crisps, soft drinks, stationery, frozen food, halal food, chilled foods including milk, and a wide range of groceries, alcohol, tobacco and prepaid telephone cards, for mobiles and landlines. Banks - HSBC, NatWest and Barclays are all situated on the Campus. Post Office - In addition to the normal range of postal and parcel services, a comprehensive range of services are offered, including: MoneyGram International Money Transfers; Travel; Bureau de Change - Euros are now available on demand, other currencies may require up to 4 days notice; E111 (for emergency medical treatment in most European countries). Travel Shop - A STA travel shop is available on Campus and ticket re-confirmations can be provided at a cost of £5.00 per person. Rootes Social Building - Rootes restaurant is located on the first floor. This large venue offers dining in a relaxed and comfortable environment. The menu offers an “Around the Globe” feel and the most choice on Campus. The restaurant is also the home of the carvery, with quality roasted meats available everyday served as part of the carvery or in a hot baguette. Breakfast, lunch and evening meals will be available in this restaurant. VIVA sandwich bar is located in the entrance to Rootes Social Building, with the largest selection of freshly prepared and tasty sandwiches, wraps and salads, plus a wide range of cakes, pastries, speciality coffee, teas and hot chocolate. In VIVA you have the choice to take away or sit and relax in comfy surroundings. VIVA by Night offers a delicious evening menu of fresh pizza and pasta dishes and a good range of wines and beers. The Bar located on the first floor is the perfect venue to begin your evening in a contemporary, stylish environment. A large selection of drinks consisting of beers from around the globe, spirits and a large range of juices and mixers. Bar Fusion is located in The Bar and is a place where you can experience a variety of freshly prepared Authentic Asian Food. Below are a range of sample lunch menus to give you a flavour of what is available on campus: Sample Lunch Menu 1 - Sample Lunch Menu 2 - Sample Lunch Menu 3 - Sample Lunch Menu 4 - Sample Lunch Menu 5 Arts Centre - Café Bar on the ground floor of the Arts Centre has a relaxed atmosphere during the day and night. During the day there is an excellent selection of food including sandwiches, panini, hot snacks and pastries and speciality cakes. Eat restaurant is located in Warwick Arts Centre, the largest multi venue Arts Centre outside London, with spectacular theatre shows, music and cinema. Eat is the perfect location to eat before or after the performance. The restaurant offers freshly prepared food served in sophisticated and contemporary surroundings. The main menu includes a selection of meat, fish and vibrant vegetarian options. Lighter options are also available including the specialty dish: hot salads cooked before your eyes! Library - Café library, ground floor of the library building is open from breakfast right through to supper! With the choice of eat in or take-away. Speciality being the best breakfast offer on campus, cooked freshly on the griddle and served until 11.30. After this time, delicious bacon and sausage baguettes are served. Good quality hot meals and snacks, sandwiches, plenty of healthy options and a range of cakes and pastries to compliment. Stylish surroundings and comfy surroundings means Café library is the perfect place to dine, before, between or after lectures or a session in the library.
